A4042 Cwmbran Roundabout to Pontypool Roundabout Lighting and Barrier Works

Where and Why?

Essential upgrade works to the safety barrier and street lighting systems on the A4042 trunk road between Cwmbran Roundabout and Pontypool Roundabout.

Diversions and Safety Measures

Works are programmed to commence on Monday 17th August 2020 utilising a combination of lane closures, full closures and narrow lane running. Local diversions will be in place when full road closures are required. All works will be undertaken at night. A 40mph speed limit will be in place when narrow lane running is required.

Programme of traffic management restrictions

Single lane closures on the Northbound and Southbound carriageways (overnight) from Monday 17th August 2020 for a period of approximately 8 weeks to install the new street lighting system. No traffic management will be in place during the day.

Full closures (overnight) will be required in October to install the narrow lanes, remove the existing safety barrier and redundant street lighting and install the temporary safety barrier. Narrow lanes will be in place in the day and will be subject to a 40mph speed limit.

Following on from the above, works to install the new centre reserve safety barrier will be undertaken at night utilising a combination of narrow lane running and single lane closures.

Further full carriageway closures will be required in December (overnight) to remove the temporary safety barrier and narrow lanes.

Advance notification signs will be provided to inform of the forthcoming closures and local diversion signs will be in place to manage the flow of traffic.

** Works are programmed to be completed by Thursday 17th December 2020. However, please note, this may be subject to change.
