Share

Start date: 20/01/22 | End date 07/02/22

Expansion joint renewal works on viaduct

Essential work to replace the bridge deck expansion joints at Goat Inn Viaduct, located between junctions 15 and 16 of the A55. Works will be carried out under a contraflow system.

The closures will also be used to complete Pen Y Clip Tunnel and Headland maintenance works to reduce the number of future closures needed.

The work will be carried out between 06:00 on 20th January and 06:00 on the 7th February. It will be necessary to stop traffic for up to 20 minutes at a time overnight on January 19th, 27th and February 6th to set out, change and remove traffic management safely.

January 20th-27th

  • 24/7 closure A55 eastbound at the Goat Inn Viaduct including Pen Y Clip Headland with traffic in contraflow on the westbound carriageway through Pen Y Clip Tunnel.

January 21st-February 7th

  • No access to A55 from Bangor Road (Penmaenmawr) to protect the safety of the travelling public and workers. Vehicles will be turned around at red gables and directed to access the A55 from the J16 roundabout.

January 28th – February 7th

  • 24/7 closure A55 westbound at the Goat Inn Viaduct including Pen Y Clip Tunnel with traffic in contraflow on the eastbound carriageway around Pen Y Clip Headland.

There will be a 3.25m width restriction in place between junctions 15 and 16. Abnormal loads will be escorted through the contraflow by Traffic Officers. Waiting areas will be provided in the laybys located after Junction 14 for eastbound traffic and after Junction 17 for westbound traffic. Abnormal loads will be permitted to travel through the contraflow under Traffic Officer escort between the hours of 09:00 – 12:00 and 13:00 – 15:00.

There are no full closures planned therefore no diversion routes are required. Traffic will continue in contraflow 24/7.
