Where and Why?
The existing underpass lighting has reach the end of its design life and is no longer economical to maintain and therefore the proposals are to replace the lighting system with a new LED lighting system that is both controllable and dimmable. The works will commence on the eastbound carriageway on the 3rd February for 10 nights before moving onto the westbound carriageway on 13th February for 10 nights.
Diversions and Safety Measures
The works within the eastbound bore will be carried out over a 10 night period (20:00 – 06:00) under a full eastbound closure between J19 (Llandudno Junction) and J22 (Old Colwyn). Traffic will be diverted at J19 (Llandudno Junction) along the A547 Conwy Road through Mochdre and Colwyn bay and re-join the eastbound carriageway at J22 (Old Colwyn).
The works within the westbound bore will be carried out over a 10 night period (20:00 – 06:00) under a full westbound closure between J22 (Old Colwyn) and J19 (Llandudno Junction). Traffic will be diverted at J22 (Old Colwyn) along the A547 Conwy Road through Colwyn bay and Mochdre and re-join onto the westbound carriageway at J19 (Llandudno Junction).
The works are being completed overnight in February when traffic flows are historically lower to minimise disruption.
Programme of traffic management restrictions
All Abnormal loads over 3.0m are prohibited from travelling along the diversion route during the full carriageway closures.
However, provisions will be in place for them to park up overnight at the following locations:
- Eastbound – Madryn layby
- Westbound – Llandulas layby
