M4 Celtic Manor Overbridge – September 2018 to May 2019

Share

Where and why?

A new overbridge is to be constructed as part of the International Conference Centre Wales development adjacent to the Celtic Manor. The new overbridge will provide essential improvements to the existing infrastructure to facilitate the new Conference Centre. The structure is located to the west of the M4 J24 Coldra Roundabout.

Diversions and safety measures

Works to the substructure and northern abutment will take place between 10/09/18 and approximately 01/03/19. Due to the steep embankments to the north of the M4 access for these works will need to be facilitated from the M4. This will require a permanent lane 1 closure on the M4 J24 EB offslip. This was implemented prior to and during the NATO conference and a trial has been initiated this year causing minimal disruption to the travelling public.

Placement of steel box girders will require both carriageways of the M4 to be shut simultaneously. These works will take place Saturday night 16/02/2019 between 20:00 and 08:00. Traffic Management switches are planned throughout the night to keep disruption to a minimum the closures implemented for the minimum amount of time possible to complete the individual operations. The diversion route for the Total Closures will be to follow the SDR to the south of Newport between J24 and J28.
