Traffic Wales traffic information is available to use in third party applications. Terms and conditions apply and vary according to the type of data feed, as described in this page.

For all types of data sourced directly from Traffic Wales, please note:

  • Traffic Wales website terms and conditions, privacy policy and copyright policies apply.
  • Traffic Wales must be credited as the data source.
  • Access may be revoked if usage causes degradation to our services.
  • We do not guarantee any levels of service and we do not guarantee that data or access will be uninterrupted or error free.

Live traffic cameras

Still images from live Traffic Wales cameras are available from a restricted-access server.

Access is subject to additional terms and conditions.

Live XML data feeds based on the DATEX II protocol provide camera names in English and Welsh, coordinates, time of last refresh and an operational status flag. Alternatively, a static list in csv format is available to subscribers upon request. 

Contact us to apply for access. Please provide your name, your contact details, name of organisation, description of the service you are intending to provide and URL of the website or application where the images will be displayed.

RSS

RSS feed links are published in this linked page.

The RSS links provide Traffic Wales data (English and Welsh languages) for incidents, major planned events and major roadworks impacting the motorway and trunk road network in Wales. Data is updated every 5 minutes.

No registration is required.

Data is only available for the motorway and trunk road network and generated by Traffic Wales. The output records may therefore differ from other Traffic Wales website content which also contains data from external sources.

Twitter

Traffic Wales data for incidents, major roadworks and major planned events are published to Twitter accounts in English and Welsh.

The Traffic Wales Twitter feeds are:

DATEX II incidents, events, roadworks, CCTV and variable message sign data

Traffic Wales data is available in an XML format based on the DATEX II protocol.

The following data is currently available in this format:

  • Events – bilingual updates on current unplanned incidents and major planned events 
  • Roadworks – bilingual updates on major roadworks schemes 
  • CCTV – traffic camera locations, names and operational status flag
  • VMS – roadside variable message sign locations, names and current displayed messages

Access is restricted and subject to additional terms and conditions.

Live diversion route data

Traffic Wales live diversion route data shown in map screens on this website is published using applications licensed by Elgin. Access to this data for use in routing applications is available from Elgin, subject to licence. Please contact Elgin for further information.

The Welsh Government is content for users to establish hyperlinks to this site. However, Traffic Wales web pages should load into the user's entire window and should not be loaded into frames on your site.
