An essential planned highways maintenance scheme has been scheduled to take place on the A40 between the Pyscodlyn Farm and the County Boundary at Glangrwyney. The works will involve the repair and strengthening of an existing retaining wall, plus the construction of a vehicle restraint safety barrier in order to improve safety along this stretch of the carriageway. Works will commence on 26/10/2026
One lane will be closed on the A40 at this location for the duration of the scheme with the use of two-way lights.
There will be a requirement for a total road closure on a limited number of nights during the construction period, however these will be implemented during night-time hours only (2000hrs to 0600hrs), and in these instances advance notification shall be provided.
The first total closure is planned for 26th October 2026.
During total closures, the alternative route for eastbound light vehicles affected by the closure will be A40 to Crickhowell, east along the A4077 towards Govilon then east along the A465 Heads of the Valley Road to re-join the A40 at Abergavenny. Vice versa for westbound light vehicles.
The alternative route for eastbound HGV’s affected by the closure will be west along the A40 towards Brecon, south along the A470 towards Merthyr Tydfil then east along the A465 Heads of the Valley Road to re-join the A40 at Abergavenny. Vice versa for westbound HGV’s.
