The works will be carried out over the 9 weeks, primarily during the daytime off-peak traffic hours of 09:30 to 15:30, under lane closures with temporary traffic signal control.

The alternative route for diverted traffic is via A4042, A40, A449 and M4. Non-motorway traffic to follow the A48 Southern Distributor Road through Newport Vehicles over 44t are currently prohibited between M4 J24 and J28.
