Using this website

This website is run by Traffic Wales, a Welsh Government service. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

  • live CCTV video streams do not have captions
  • some map-based elements are not compatible with screen readers
  • some images do not have good alternative text

Non-accessible content

Issues with images, video and audio

Images on pages do not always have suitable alternative text. Some images are missing alternative text and some have incomplete text.  This fails WCAG 1.1.1 Non-text Content: We plan to identify and fix these by April 2024.

Live CCTV video streams do not have captions. We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.

Issues with interactive elements and transactions

Some map-based elements are not compatible with screen readers, because interaction with the map is required in order to display pop-up boxes.

We are working with our third party suppliers to improve this aspect in the future. Our bilingual traffic updates for incidents and major roadworks are available in a text-based format on the Road Traffic Alerts page and through the other formats.
