A55 Conwy Tunnel Westbound Bore Continuous Closure

Conwy Tunnel

A full closure of the A55 Westbound carriageway between J17 and J18 at Conwy Tunnel will commence on the 10/01/26 and continue up to the morning of the 20/01/26 

A full closure of the A55 Westbound carriageway between J17 and J18 at Conwy Tunnel will commence on the 10/01/26 and continue up to the morning of the 20/01/26 when the traffic management will be removed and the tunnel will fully re-open.

Works will include:

Replacement of life expired interior LED lighting.

Reconfiguration and updating of the lighting control system.

Replacement of life expired steel cable trough covers.

Concrete repairs to evacuation walkways.

Replacement of life expired safety barrier.

Rectification of M&E infrastructure faults.

Electrical Testing

Familiarisation visits by Emergency Services operational staff.

Tunnel Emergency Exercise as required by the Road Tunnel Safety Regulations.

Traffic will be diverted via contraflow through the Eastbound bore of Conwy Tunnel.

The works are being carried out in January when traffic flows are historically lower to minimise disruption.

Abnormal loads over 3.2m wide will be escorted through the traffic management during pre-determined daytime slots Monday - Friday.
