NMWTRA ensures that the trunk roads network (the major A roads) in North and Mid Wales are fit for purpose and safe for users.
Managing the roads
We look after the roads by planning, managing and coordinating works on the highway.
We also monitor the network 24/7 365 days a year from the Control Room in the Traffic Management Centre. Our Control Room staff set signs on the network and use the cameras and traffic data to identify incidents quickly.
Traffic officers and Route stewards play a key part in keeping the roads clear and safe to use.
Improving the roads
We plan, manage and deliver improvement projects on the trunk road network. This could include upgrading the road by replacing worn-out assets or creating a new road layout.
This is to ensure that the roads are kept safe for everyone who wishes to use them.
Maintaining the roads
We’re responsible for maintaining the major A roads in North and Mid Wales as well as the structures and technology along them. Our work includes routine repairs to address general wear and tear on the network. We also look after road verges and green corridors, and help to protect the wildlife on our roads in line the Welsh Government's Green Corridors Initiative.
