Essential works to address hazardous trees identified adjacent to the A40 trunk road between Glangrwyney Powys boundary and the English boundary will commence on 02/09/2024 (Monday to Friday working only).
The work will be undertaken either at night between the hours of 20:00-06:00 or during the day between the hours 9:30-15:30.
Lane closures will be utilised to facilitate the majority of the works; however, some total closures of the A40 between Pyscodlyn and Glangrwyney will be required towards the end of the programme to provide the necessary safety zones. Signed diversions will be put in place for both non-HGV and HGV traffic.
A40 Hardwick Roundabout to Raglan Interchange

24 hour lane closures in both directions will be utilised to facilitate the works at this section.
A40 Raglan to Gibraltar Tunnels
9-13 September 9:30-15:30
Daytime lane closures for 5 days and nighttime lane closures for 2 nights in both directions.
A40 Gibraltar Tunnels to Dixton
16-19 September 20:00-06:00
Nighttime lane closures in both directions for 3 nights.
A40 Dixton to English Border
19-21 September & 23-25 September 20:00-06:00
Nighttime lane closures in both directions for 4 nights.
A40 Pyscodlyn to Glangrwyney
25-28 September 20:00-06:00
Overnight full road closure in both directions for 3 nights.
A40 Westbound – Non-HGV Traffic
Traffic will be diverted southbound via the A4143 and onto the A465 westbound carriageway at Llanfoist. Traffic will exit the A465 at Glanbaiden roundabout and continue travelling north-west via the A4077, cross Crickhowell Bridge and re-join the A40 trunk road.
A40 Eastbound – Non-HGV Traffic
Traffic will be diverted southbound via the A4077, cross Crickhowell Bridge and continue south-east. Traffic will join the A465 and travel east via the eastbound carriageway, exit, continue north via the A4143 and re-join the A40 trunk road.
A40 Westbound – HGV Traffic
Traffic will be diverted southbound via the A4143 and onto the A465 westbound carriageway at Llanfoist. Traffic will exit the A465 and travel north via the A470 at Cefn-coed-y-cymmer before re-joining the A40 at Brecon via the eastbound carriageway.
A40 Eastbound – HGV Traffic
Traffic will be diverted westbound via the A40 before joining the A470 southbound at Brecon to Cefn-coed-y-cymmer. Traffic will there exit the A470 and travel east via the A465, exit onto the A4143 north at Llanfoist, and continue north to re-join the A40.
