M4 J33 to Prince of Wales Bridge: Hazard Tree Clearance

Essential works to address hazardous trees adjacent to the M4 between J33 (Cardiff West Junction) and the Prince of Wales Bridge will commence on 04/11/2024 for 90 nights.

The work will be undertaken during the night between 20:00 and 06:00 using mostly hard shoulder and lane closures; however, some total slip road closures will be required during the programme, to provide the necessary safety zones. Signed diversions will be put in place during total closures.

No work will be undertaken during the Christmas embargo period between 20/12/2024 and 06/01/2025.

Total Closures

27-30 November

  • M4 J28 Tredegar Park eastbound exit slip road closed from 20:00-06:00 for 3 nights.

 

2-5 December

  • M4 J28 Tredegar Park eastbound entry slip road from 20:00-06:00 for 3 nights.

 

14-17 December

  • M4 J24 Coldra eastbound exit slip road closed from 20:00-06:00 for 3 nights.

 

20-21 January

  • M4 J23A Magor eastbound exit slip road closed from 20:00-06:00 for 1 night.

 

Further closures will be advertised closer to the time.

J28 Eastbound Exit Slip Road

Traffic exiting the M4 at J28 via the eastbound exit slip road, will instead continue eastbound on the M4 and exit via the eastbound exit slip road at J27. There, traffic will navigate the High Cross Interchange and join the M4 westbound carriageway via the M4 westbound entry slip road. Traffic will then travel westbound and exit the M4 at J28 via the westbound exit slip road.

J28 Eastbound Entry Slip Road

Traffic joining the M4 at J28 via the M4 eastbound entry slip road, will instead navigate the Tredegar Park Interchange and enter the M4 westbound carriageway via the M4 westbound entry slip road. Traffic will then travel westbound and exit the M4 at J30 via the westbound exit slip road. There, traffic will navigate the Pentwyn Interchange to join the M4 eastbound carriageway via the M4 J30 eastbound entry slip road to return eastbound.

J24 Eastbound Exit Slip Road

Traffic exiting the M4 at J24 via the eastbound exit slip road, will instead continue eastbound on the M4 and exit via the eastbound exit slip road at J23A. There, traffic will navigate the Magor Interchange and join the M4 westbound carriageway via the M4 westbound entry slip road. Traffic will then travel westbound and exit the M4 at J24 via the westbound exit slip road.

J23A – Eastbound Exit Slip Road

Traffic exiting the M4 at J23A via the eastbound exit slip road, will instead continue eastbound on the M4 and exit onto the M48 via the eastbound exit slip road at J23. Traffic will continue eastbound on the M48 before exiting via the eastbound exit slip road at J2, and navigating the Newhouse Interchange to enter the M48 westbound via the J2 westbound entry slip road. There, traffic will return westbound, join the M4 westbound via the J23 westbound entry slip road, continue westbound, and exit the M4 at J23A via the westbound exit slip road.
