SWTRA manages the South Wales area of the Welsh Government's strategic road network. The service covers 436 kilometres of trunk road and 178 kilometres of motorway.

SWTRA delivers functions delegated by the Welsh Ministers and which are prescribed under the Highways Act 1980 and New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 in relation to works co-ordination, licensing and enforcement in relation to highway matters
SWTRA coordinates and enables the delivery of highway maintenance and improvements.
Our supply chain includes local authority partnerships, framework contractors, framework consultants and technology support providers.
The Business Management section develops and maintains an Integrated Management System certified by a registered United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) approved verification body. The scope of the system is 'The Management of the Trunk Road Agent in South Wales'. Our certificate identity number with Lloyd's Register is 10235347.
The Agent has certified Quality Management Systems to ISO 9001:2015 and National Highway Sector Schemes (as required).
Environmental Management Systems are certified to ISO 14001:2015.
Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems have been certified to ISO 45001:2018.
